School Safety Officer

Purpose Statement

The job of Safety Officer School is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for the safety and welfare of students during classroom and non-classroom activities; minimizing the frequency and/or severity of harmful incidents; addressing and communicating observations and/or incidents that have a potential impact on the general well-being of students, school personnel, and/or visitors. This position is a uniformed armed school safety officer; must be able to obtain and maintain an armed security license from the St. Louis County Police Department.

Job Requirements

• Knowledge of methods of investigation; record keeping; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; practicing cultural competency while working collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals; and school safety and security practices;
• Knowledge of age-appropriate activities/behaviors;
• Ability to operate a security vehicle; standard office equipment and use pertinent software applications; prepare and maintain accurate records; adhere to safety practices and procedures; conduct critical observation; provide customer service; enforce rules and regulations; investigate problems; perform physical restraint practices;
• Flexibility to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; use basic, job-related equipment; adapt to changing work priorities; communicate with diverse groups; maintain confidentiality; work as part of a team; work with detailed information/data; ensure accuracy and attention to detail; deal with frequent interruptions; manage diffuse argumentative behavior; meet deadlines and schedules.
