Responsibilities
- Supports the planning and implementation of activities, programs, and experiences for children in small groups.
- Ensures the general safety, development, growth, and skill achievement of children in their group.
- Assists in providing and participating in all activities while ensuring the delivery of a quality program.
- Greet children and parents; assure proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; clean and store equipment and supplies in the program area.
- Attend staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training per State requirements.
- Cultivate positive relationships and maintain effective communication with parents, children, and other staff members.
- Adhere to program and state licensing standards, including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age
- Under 18 years of age, please apply for our Assistant Counselor position
- Ability to clear state-mandated background checks, including criminal history and child abuse records checks
- Knowledge in the supervision and safety of children
- Possess leadership skills and can assist in encouraging and motivating children in a before- and after-school setting
- Able to communicate effectively with coworkers, children, and parents/guardians
- CPR, First Aid, AED Certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training completed within 60 days of hire
- Able to lead in one or more of the following areas: sports, games, academics, crafts
