Maxim Healthcare is partnering with the Harvard School District to find compassionate and reliable Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide one-on-one care for students during transportation to and from school. This role offers a predictable schedule and the opportunity to help students safely access their education each day.
About the role
As a School Transport Nurse, you will provide individualized support during transportation, ensuring a safe and comfortable ride for medically fragile students. This position resumes for the Fall 2026 school year.
- One-on-one student care with all care plans provided during training

Schedule
- Morning Route: Start at 7:30 AM (arrive by 7:15 AM), approximately finished by 9:00 AM
- Afternoon Route: Start at approximately 1:25 PM, end at approximately 4:00 PM
Route Details:
- Morning Route: One trip with two students, followed by a longer route with one student
- Afternoon Route: One longer route with two students on the first leg, return to school for a second transport with one student
Student Support Needs: Comprehensive training and care plans will be provided for all students.
- Student A: Non-verbal, history of VNS-managed seizures, requires monitoring for secretion management
- Student B:
- GJ-tube feedings during morning and afternoon transport
- Seizure history with emergency medication available if needed
- Tracheostomy care during afternoon transportation (no ventilator required)
- Requires monitoring for airway safety and trach stability
Responsibilities
- Provide skilled nursing support during student transportation
- Monitor students with complex medical needs
- Administer care related to tracheostomies, G-tubes, seizure disorders, diabetes, and other medical conditions as needed
- Respond appropriately to changes in condition according to established care plans
- Communicate effectively with families, transportation teams, school staff, and clinical supervisors
- Ensure student comfort, safety, and well-being throughout each route
- Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with care protocols
Requirements
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) License
- Current BLS Certification
- Current Health Certificate (per state regulations)
- Current PPD or Chest X-Ray
- One year of RN experience preferred
- Experience with trach care, enteral feeding, seizure management, or pediatric nursing is a plus
- Ability to follow detailed care plans and communicate effectively with students, families, and school staff
Pay
- $100 per transport (up to $200 per day)
- $1,000 sign-on bonus for full-time nurses
