About the role
The School Psychologist Intern plays a crucial role in the Special Programs team, collaborating with instructional leaders, campus leaders, and teachers to enhance student outcomes. They are responsible for demonstrating expertise in assessment, determining Special Education eligibility, providing academic and behavioral interventions, and ensuring compliance with legal frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Supports special education teachers in developing appropriate IEP academic, behavioral, and social goals.
- Ensures IEP services are provided as outlined in ARD meetings.
- Works collaboratively with speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other related service personnel to complete ARD paperwork.
- Maintains accurate records and services according to state and federal guidelines.
- Tracks and documents counseling services.
- Trains in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) and provides crisis counseling when necessary.
- Guides campuses in interventions for students experiencing emotional and behavioral crises.
- Supports 504 campus coordinators with 504 meeting requirements, eligibility determinations, homebound services, and manifestation determinations.
- Conducts dyslexia evaluations for 504 students.
- Guides campuses in tracking and documenting academic and behavioral interventions across different tiers.
- Conducts full and individual evaluations for non-speech-only students who are referred for one or more eligibility categories.
- Ensures psychological evaluations for Autism and Emotional Disturbance adhere to best practices.
- Adheres to the latest evaluation tools and standards set by the American Psychological Association.
- Assists in conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans in response to intervention needs.
- Provides guidance on academic and behavioral interventions in Tier II and Tier III levels.
- Ensures students referred to Special Education have completed appropriate interventions before being evaluated.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in a valid university internship program for Licensed Specialist in School Psychology.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods, climb ladders or scaffolding, and work in confined spaces.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds in case of emergency.
- Must be able to work in various environments, including indoor and outdoor settings.

Full-time on-site position in the Lower RGV, with preference given to candidates living in the region or willing to relocate.
