About the role

The Intern School Psychologist provides a full range of school psychological services to children grades K-12, under the guidance of a mentor school psychologist, including screening and assessment, individual and group counseling, and working with outside agencies as appropriate. The school psychologist is a member of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team to determine student’s eligibility for special services, appropriate programming, and on-going progress.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group services to children that emphasize improved educational performance
  • Screen and evaluate referred children including selecting appropriate instruments, administering tests, observations, and writing reports which state the evaluation findings and provide for educational program recommendations
  • Participate as a member of the IEP team, contributing evaluation findings and collaborating with all members of the team to develop education plans
  • Collaborate with school staff around Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) implementation, Student Study Team meetings, and Aspire wide Crisis planning
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and other staff regarding any accommodations/modifications needed for a specific child
  • Maintain appropriate data on students, including present levels of performance and intervention strategies
  • Collaborate to field requests for assessment and provide written response within legal timeline, such as an Assessment Plan and/or Prior Written Notice
  • Collaborate with the special education team to design and implement intervention strategies and programs
  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) assessments and Educationally Related Mental Health Assessments (ERMHS), as required by IDEA, and provide behavior and mental health consultation to IEP team members, including support in drafting a strong behavior intervention plan and behavior data tracking systems
  • Establish and monitor necessary caseloads, work with schools and other staff to plan assessments and meetings; submit records, reports, and assignments promptly and efficiently

Qualifications

  • Competencies:
    • Proven ability to provide timely and meaningful financial analysis in a dynamic, high-growth work environment
    • Demonstrated commitment to students and learning
    • Experience with students grades K-12
    • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively and interact effectively with different audiences
    • Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills; high sense of urgency; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple cases concurrently
    • Ability to work as a part of a team
    • Deals with obstacles and constraints positively
  • Minimum educational level:
    • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Experience required:
    • Current enrollment in a graduate-level educational or school psychology program is required.
  • Physical requirements:
    • Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height
    • Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping)
    • Demonstrate normal depth perception
    • Sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time
    • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone
    • See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids
    • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without auditory aides
