Duties and Responsibilities
- Consults with teachers and intervention specialists in classroom behavior management, academic and behavioral interventions, proper implementation of IEP goals and BIP goals.
- Counsels students related to anti-bullying strategies, anger management strategies, problem solving, self-regulation and self-determination.
- Provides counseling, instruction, and mentoring for students struggling with social, emotional, and behavioral problems.
- Enhances school-wide understanding and acceptance of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Identifies and addresses learning and behavior problems that interfere with school success.
- Supports students' social, emotional, and behavioral health.
- Designs and supports implementation of academic and behavioral interventions.
- Implements school-wide prevention programs to maintain positive school climates conducive to learning.
Compliance
- Participates in IAT meetings, ETR meetings, serves as a diagnostic member of the IEP team, and supports the development of IEPs and ETRs.
- Conducts functional behavioral assessments (FBAs) and oversees or writes draft BIPs as needed.
- Provides oversight to special education processes, including compliance.
- Evaluates eligibility for special education services (within a multidisciplinary team).
- Designs and implements student progress monitoring systems.
- Collects and analyzes data related to school improvement, student outcomes, and accountability requirements.
Family/Community Involvement
- Enhances home–school collaboration and provides support to parents as needed or requested.
- Makes referrals and helps coordinate community support services as appropriate.
- Responds to crises by providing leadership, direct services, and coordination with needed community services.
- Designs, implements, and garners support for comprehensive school mental health programming.
- Coordinates the delivery of services to students and their families in and outside of school.
- Helps students transition to and from school and community learning environments, such as residential treatment or juvenile justice programs.
Professionalism
- Meets with the management team, Sponsors, ODE, or other officials and agencies as requested by the CEO, Director of Student Services, and Chief of Staff.
- Conducts training with staff as requested by the CEO, Chief of Staff, and Director of Student Services related to the student services program, interventions, special education service delivery, and compliance.
- Follows all prescribed Board policies faithfully.
- Reads and understands all policies outlined in staff handbook and student handbook/code of conduct.
- Refers to the student handbook/code of conduct and maintains confidentiality of student and parent information.
- Reports any and all cases of suspected child abuse or neglect immediately to Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or Superintendent, before contacting Children’s Services or local law enforcement.
