Job Overview
The School Psychologist provides a broad array of psychological services including assessment, consultation, prevention, and intervention, consistent with best practices and in accordance with policies and regulations of the School Board.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Counsels students on mental health issues and conducts suicide prevention programs.
- Attends eligibility meetings to assist in determining if a student has a disability requiring special education services.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary teams to support school-based interventions for students.
- Provides crisis intervention support in response to critical incidents.
- Collaborates with school administration, instructional staff, parents, and students to address individual behavioral, educational, and academic needs.
- Supports the implementation and provides coaching for PBIS and MTSS.
- Conducts threat assessments and suicide screenings.
- Leads or participates in program initiatives during non-school months.
Qualifications
- Specialist or doctoral degree in School Psychology or a related discipline in child psychology.
- Successful experience demonstrating reliability, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and good judgment.
- Eligibility for a Virginia Pupil Personnel License with an endorsement in School Psychology.
- Strong oral and written communication abilities and productive time management skills.
- Leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and colleagues.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time.
- Erecting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
