School Program Intern

About the role

Denver Botanic Gardens is a 24-acre urban oasis founded in 1951, accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, and known for its diverse collections including a living plant collection, natural history collection, and art collection. The Gardens' mission is to bring plants to people and their core values are sustainability, diversity, relevance, and transformation.

Responsibilities

• Assists in implementing school and other programming such as onsite guided tours, drop-in activities, and family events.
• Maintains set up and take down program materials.
• Provides program introductions to groups of elementary-age students, teachers, and parent chaperones.
• Maintains a safe environment for visitors and addresses first aid issues.
• Aids in monitoring materials used by education and other departments.
• Aids in preparing for family programming.
• Coordinates volunteers as needed and provides support for all volunteers.
• Revises or creates programs as needed, including but not limited to School Programs.
• Ensures the highest quality experience for all Denver Botanic Gardens visitors.
• Maintains positive, helpful, and solution-oriented relationships with managers, co-workers, and others.
• Works to a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Desirable knowledge of environmental sciences, agriculture, or horticulture.
• Ability to maintain education materials and keep accurate records.
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Stability under pressure and ability to handle stressful situations.
• Flexibility and willingness to modify plans when necessary.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook and Teams.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Positive representation of the Gardens both internally and externally.
• Commitment to working safely at all times.
• High school diploma/GED and/or combination of education and equivalent experience in education, teacher preparation, museum studies, or environmental education.
• Undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate in the field of education, teacher preparation, museum studies, or environmental education.
• Previous experience working with children, especially in grades PreK-6.
