Position is for the 2026-2027 school year at the Performing Arts School on Broadway, serving grades 7-12.

About the Role

The School Office Clerk/Health Paraprofessional supports the efficient and professional operation of all school procedures and activities while creating a welcoming environment for students, parents, and staff. This role assists with administrative tasks and supports the health office in managing student health care, behavior, and needs.

Responsibilities

  • Create a warm, friendly, and collegial atmosphere where service to staff, students, and parents is the priority.
  • Answer telephones and greet the public; respond to inquiries and direct staff or administration as needed.
  • Assist with registration procedures, student enrollment, attendance, discipline records, and parent/staff communications.
  • Manage time and attendance documentation, payroll, and substitute coordination.
  • Process internal and external mail and enter work orders as needed.
  • Provide medical treatment for sick or injured students when the Health Aide is unavailable.
  • Maintain school purchase orders, materials inventory, and the school activity fund.
  • Assist with school fundraisers, parent activities, volunteers, SAAC Committee, and Yearbook coordination.
  • Ensure the efficient operation of office equipment (e.g., copy machines).
  • Work at a fast pace, handling multiple tasks and interruptions simultaneously.
  • Support teachers with lesson implementation, classroom maintenance, student supervision, and instructional materials preparation.
  • Assist students with understanding and reinforcing skills, including in their native language if preferred.
  • Support student health care, including administering first aid, dispensing medication, assisting with medical needs, and executing health care directives (e.g., tube feeding, diabetes monitoring).
  • Conduct health screenings, maintain health records, and order medical supplies.
  • Attend in-services, building meetings, training, and school functions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-year office experience preferred.
  • 0-2 years' experience working with children in a school setting.
  • Experience in health care, working with children with disabilities, or network management is a plus.
  • Basic English, grammar, spelling, writing, word processing, keyboarding, and communication skills.
  • Operating knowledge of general health care procedures and office equipment.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications may be required.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and push/pull 200 pounds (e.g., assisting students in wheelchairs).
  • Close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and independent judgment to respond to concerns and support school operations.
  • Ability to collaborate with Principal, office personnel, Health Aide, teachers, students, and families.

Skills

  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in technology for communications (e.g., newsletters, bulletins).
  • Foreign language skills preferred for assisting students and parents in their native language.
  • Cross-training in health care, student management, special education, or bilingual skills may be required.

Pay

Pay range: $21.65–$31.88 per hour (C10-4 Range).

Schedule

188/181 days per year, 8 hours per day.
