School Nurse, PRN

About the role

The Lexington School is seeking a compassionate and dependable PRN School Nurse to join our school’s health office team. This role provides nursing support on an as-needed basis, delivering direct student care, supporting established school health policies and services, and ensuring the well-being and safety of all students while on campus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain daily operation of the health room during assigned shifts, including monitoring inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
• Follow federal, state, and local health regulations while maintaining confidentiality.
• Maintain accurate documentation including treatment records, immunization records, emergency contacts, and student health information (allergies, accommodations, etc.).
• Student Health: Assess student health needs through observation, screening support, and referral procedures. Provide direct nursing care for sick or injured students including assessment, triage, and coordination with emergency services as needed.
• Comply with physician orders for student care and maintain appropriate documentation. Administer medications to students in accordance with State Nursing Board regulations. Follow and support established individualized health care plans for students with chronic illnesses, conditions requiring emergency protocols, and students who self-administer medications or medical procedures.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns arising during assigned shifts, including medication changes and refill needs. Coordinate with other Health Office personnel and Administration to ensure continuity of student care between shifts. Serve as a resource for the school’s crisis and emergency management team while on campus.
• Carry provided communication resources (two-way radios, CrisisGo mobile app) at all times while on campus.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a State-approved nursing program
• Current, unrestricted, and unencumbered Kentucky nursing license (RN or higher)
• Current BLS and CPR certification (Red Cross or American Heart Association)
• Working knowledge Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and database management systems
• Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent demands, including frequent inquiries from faculty, parents, and students
• Flexible availability to accommodate varying coverage needs
