School Nurse - Health Center

Position Details

Work Year: 12 Months
Work Hours: Variable shifts: Monday - Friday, Hours Between: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Schedule may vary based on operational needs

About the Role

The Punahou School Health Center aims to improve each student’s physical and psychological health, to prevent disease or to control its spread, to maintain satisfactory community hygiene and safety, and to administer first aid for injuries that may occur during the school day.

Responsibilities

• Provide expertise and oversight for the provision of school health services and promotion of health education.
• Perform health screenings.
• Cookinate referrals to the medical home or primary health care provider.
• Serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, community and health care providers, school nurses advocate for health care and a healthy school environment.
• Review health requirement documentation for all students, and work with families as needed to ensure that these requirements are complete and up-to-date.
• Work with faculty, staff, and administration to ensure that student health needs are attended to for off campus activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and/or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Three (3) years of recent and preferably full-time, acute care or ambulatory care experience.
• Current Hawaii State RN license.
• Current Healthcare Provider Level CPR Certification.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of principles and practices of professional nursing as well as State and local laws relating to health and social issues.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate effectively with children, teens, family members, educators and administrators of diverse backgrounds.
• Projects a confident, positive, helpful and professional demeanor in working with others using tact, courtesy and diplomacy at all times.

The pay rate, if displayed, is the minimum hourly rate for the position. Pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity.
