School Nurse - FT District Float
About the role
The successful candidate will assess and evaluate students' health, counsel stakeholders, maintain health records, and coordinate health resources.
Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate students' health, pertinent family history, and home factors.
- Counsel students, parents, and school personnel about health problems and issues.
- Maintain health records, conduct research, and evaluate school health programs.
- Notify appropriate individuals of immediate and potential health-related problems.
- Prepare regular written reports for supervisor, MDPH, and other relevant agencies.
- Develop individual health care plans as needed and coordinate with other providers and school personnel.
- Document pertinent information in student records according to the Standards of Practice.
- Provide emergency care for students on school premises in case of injury or sudden illness.
- Administer medication to students with parent/guardian and physician consent.
- Perform site-mandated screenings such as vision, hearing, scoliosis, and TB testing.
- Provide information about health and disease prevention in collaboration with health education programs.
- Participate in school health-related activities as directed by the principal/supervisor.
- Initiate, promote, maintain, and implement programs for recognizing, preventing, and controlling disease, including giving immunizations.
- Coordinate medical evaluations, provide medical data, and interpret results for the 766 Core evaluation team.
- Collaborate with staff in school and health centers.
- Provide sport physical clearance coverage as needed.
Qualifications
- A current valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
- Three years of responsible professional experience in school nursing or a related field preferred.
- Current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
- DOE certification or certifiable by the Department of Education in educator category, Nurse, All Levels (minimum BSN required).
Physical Requirements
No lifting, bending, or twisting restrictions.
Working Environment
This position requires the employee to be in an office or similar indoor environment. Ability to travel among Springfield public schools' locations is required.
