About the role
The School Nurse position is responsible for ensuring a healthy school climate, providing emergency care, administering medication, and collaborating with various stakeholders to meet the health needs of students and staff.
Responsibilities
- Work with school health professionals, staff, parents, and community health professionals to maintain a healthy school environment
- Provide emergency care and administer first aid
- Maintain and update medical supplies and equipment
- Administer prescribed medication according to law and policy
- Train and supervise emergency administration of epinephrine and AEDs
- Prevent and control communicable diseases
- Conduct health services and screening programs
- Conduct physical examinations and make referrals
- Collaborate with community agencies
- Assist teachers with health units
- Provide health education and training
- Communicate with parents and students
- Aid in the preparation of the school's health budget
- Develop and implement comprehensive health education and services
- Develop and maintain the School Nursing Plan
- Prepare health and safety reports
- Report suspected child abuse
- Assist in the development of the district's emergency and crisis management plan
- Schedule and supervise health surveys
- Assume responsibility for professional growth
Qualifications
- Idaho Pupil Personnel Services certificate with School Nurse endorsement
- Clear and valid Idaho RN license
- Previous school nurse experience preferred
Skills
- Expertise in school health nursing practices and emergency procedures
- Knowledge of child growth and development, community dynamics, and current health issues
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Organizational and problem-solving skills
- Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
