School Nurse (Anticipated Vacancy) (SY26-27)
About the role
The position is anticipated to be vacant by September 4, 2026. The incumbent has the right to rescind their retirement, leave, or resignation until this date. Your hire will only be confirmed after the position is vacated, and you may start as a long-term substitute if the position remains unfilled by the start of the school year.
Responsibilities
- Provides emergency medical care to students.
- Administers and/or supervises the administration of prescription medication to students.
- Counsels and/or educates students in small groups or as individuals concerning medical issues.
- Conducts formal and informal evaluations of medical conditions and develops accurate medical summaries on students.
- Teaches mini-courses to small groups of students in Medical/Health areas relating to survival skills.
- Maintains adequate and updated health records.
- Serves as medical representative to evaluations and re-evaluations, obtains and interprets medical evaluation at these meetings.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Massachusetts license as a Registered Nurse, MA State Dept. of Education School Nurse License (All Levels), CPR & First Aid Certification, and ability to meet BPS Standards of Effective Practice.
- Prior experience working with children and adolescents in public school/agency/human services settings.
- Preferred: Experience in support services in a school setting, liaison and case management, and working with high-risk, multi-problem children and adolescents.
Qualification-Preferred
- Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.

Schedule
The start and end times of BPS schools vary, as do the lengths of the school day. Some BPS schools have a longer school day through the "Schedule A" Expanded Learning Time (ELT) agreement.
