School Maintenance Worker

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform minor and major repairs on school buildings, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work, ensuring all issues are resolved promptly.
  • Conduct routine checks of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, lighting, plumbing, and other essential infrastructure, ensuring everything operates efficiently.
  • Maintain school grounds, including mowing, landscaping, trimming, snow removal, and litter control to ensure a clean and safe environment year-round.
  • Assist with general cleaning duties within the school, including cleaning common areas, restrooms, classrooms, hallways, and cafeterias when necessary.
  • Monitor and maintain school facilities for safety hazards, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain supplies and tools needed for repairs and cleaning, notifying supervisors when new inventory is required.
  • Work closely with school staff and management to prioritize and complete maintenance requests in a timely manner.
  • Provide support during school events and activities by setting up or taking down equipment, ensuring the building and grounds are in optimal condition.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience in facility maintenance, repairs, or groundskeeping is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems is required.
  • The ability to use hand tools, power tools, and cleaning equipment safely and effectively is necessary.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on attention to detail are essential.
  • The ability to work independently and manage time effectively is important.
  • A willingness to perform cleaning tasks and assist with various maintenance duties is required.
  • The ability to lift and move heavy objects as needed (up to 50 lbs) is necessary.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, helpful attitude towards staff and students are beneficial.
  • A flexibility to work outside regular hours as needed for emergency repairs or special events is desirable.
