School Health Specialist

About the role

The School Health Specialist provides preventive health services to support the education process by working to ensure the health of students in a manner that promotes optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development. The nurse identifies problems and disabilities and provides services such as case finding, health education, referring and care to help prevent serious health problems. They assist with onboarding requirements, Medical 504 and IEP, and track medical concerns for the school and families. This is a remote, home‑based position; candidates must reside in Ohio or within 50 miles of the Ohio border. Start date: 2026/2027 school year, immediately.

Responsibilities

• Promotes and protects the optimal health status of all students, corresponding with parents on health needs of children and serving as a resource to all staff on school health issues
• Work with leadership in development of policies, procedures, and work standards for the school health program
• Monitor compliance of the school health program with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and policies
• Collaborate with other child-support agencies in designing and providing
