About the role
The Fairfax County Health Department seeks Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to support the School Health Services program. These positions offer competitive salaries, robust training, and opportunities to contribute to the health and well-being of students in Fairfax County public schools.
Responsibilities
- Provide basic nursing care services and supervision for students
- Assess and determine students' health status and follow appropriate protocols
- Monitor and manage students with acute or chronic disease and/or disabilities
- Administer medication and treatment in line with health standards and practices
- Manage medications, routine school health room activities, and update student health records
- Compile and submit health room statistics and reports
- Respond to medical emergencies and perform CPR and first aid
- Maintain current BLS certification and licensing requirements
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program
- Two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse or two years of related experience providing medical services in a public health/ community health setting
- Current license or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- AED Certification
- CPR Certification
Qualifications
- Knowledge of practical nursing skills
- Technical nursing procedures (e.g., injections, venipuncture, blood pressure screening)
- Identify questionable test findings
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a diverse population
- Document care provided according to record management guidelines
- Use sound judgment and work independently within established policies, procedures, and guidelines
