School Health Assistant

Position Overview

Provide support in addressing the health needs of students; assist in implementing the school health program; and provide appropriate care and/or referral for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students.

Essential Functions

  • Notify student's guardian of visits to the Health Office.
  • Offer care for student injuries.
  • Create an Arizona Health Record for each student.
  • Record immunizations, vision and hearing test results.
  • Maintain all prescription and non-prescription medication with proper security measures.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized office.
  • Maintain and rotate supplies.
  • Complete weekly accident and health office visit reports for Administrator.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings.
  • Conduct hearing and vision screening.
  • Complete and send immunization and hearing reports to state.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Education, Licensure, or Certification: 1+ year of School Health experience OR Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Registered Medical Assistant (MA), EMT, or RN Active CPR Certification required. Preferred: 2+ years of School Health experience preferred.
  • Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Positively interact with all students, create a safe environment that students feel safe in, identify individual student medical needs, good communication skills with students, coworkers, administration and parents, ability to collaborate with other school staff, ability to maintain a professional appearance.

Background Checks

The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.

  • Duties are performed typically in school and/or office settings throughout the division. May include frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to approximately 25 pounds and occasionally lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required.
  • Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; and the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
