About the Role
Perform routine food preparation tasks, clean up, set up, and other duties as needed in a school cafeteria environment. This position plays a key role in supporting daily food service operations while maintaining a positive and helpful atmosphere for students and staff.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine food preparation tasks, such as cutting up fruits and vegetables, making and wrapping sandwiches and salads.
- Set up and stock work areas with all necessary ingredients and equipment.
- Assist with daily cleaning duties in the cafeteria, including cleaning equipment and work areas, mopping, operating dishwashers, and scrubbing pots and pans.
- Clean up serving lines at the end of the meal shift and properly put away or dispose of leftovers.
- Organize food service and dining areas.
- Serve students and staff in a cheerful and helpful manner.
- Accurately identify reimbursable meals on the serving line and provide guidance to ensure selections meet federal guidelines.
- Safely operate standard and specialized kitchen equipment, including convection/combi ovens, microwave ovens, dishwashers, food warmers, coolers, and freezers.
- Set up serving lines with appropriate serving equipment according to Maricopa County Health Department guidelines.
- Clean work areas and dispose of garbage daily.
- Assist the manager in verifying and monitoring HACCP procedures, including temperature, sanitizer, and storage logs.
- Respond to internal and external customers promptly, efficiently, and courteously.
- Maintain respectful and courteous relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
- Perform all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed.
Requirements
- Food Handlers Card.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Previous experience in food preparation and handling preferred.
- Ability to operate institutional kitchen equipment preferred.
- Must display effective communication skills with staff, co-workers, and students.
- Must pass a criminal history background check.
- Must be able to obtain and hold a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.

Physical and Travel Requirements
- Occasional travel between campuses.
- Ability to lift objects up to 25 pounds on occasion.
- May require sitting for long periods, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping, and long periods of concentration.
- Local and in-state travel required.
