School ELA Instructional Coach (K-8)

About the role

LEARN is a network of high-performing college preparatory, tuition-free public elementary and middle schools located in Chicago, Waukegan, North Chicago, and Washington, D.C. Founded in 2001, LEARN aims to provide children with the academic foundation and ambition to earn a college degree. The Network seeks professionals dedicated to transforming public education.

Responsibilities

• Lead, in conjunction with the Teaching and Learning Team, the development, implementation, refinement, and assessment of all Network ELA programs.
• Lead, in conjunction with Teaching and Learning Team initiatives from the strategic plan and our efforts to close the achievement gap and Covid learning loss.
• Lead professional development for leaders and teachers on embedding best practices in leading ELA instruction, developing strong ELA learning tasks, and increasing teacher confidence in content and pedagogy.
• Aid in the analysis of student assessment data for the purpose of continuous improvement for leaders and teachers.
• Aid leaders and teachers to develop appropriate scaffolding for tier one ELA instruction.
• Aid leaders and teachers to develop appropriate small group systems and interventions.
• Provide recommendations for additional ELA support, via curricula or web-based programs.
• Assist in grant applications and grant reporting.
• Build and manage effective relationships with internal and external partners.

Requirements

• You have a bachelor’s degree, teacher certification (preferred).
• You have a minimum of 3-5 years of high-level teaching (AP or above) or instructional coach experience.
• You have experience using the Science of Reading.
• You have a version of K-8 education teaching/coaching experience.
• You can demonstrate leadership and support of adult learners around improving rigorous English Language Arts instruction.
• Strong preference for candidates who have served as School Leaders and have a Reading/Language Arts endorsement.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties.
