About the role
The School Data Coordinator at Virginia Virtual Academy (VAVA) plays a crucial role in analyzing and interpreting assessment data to improve instruction and student learning outcomes, particularly for academically at-risk students.
Responsibilities
- Assist with analyzing local, state, and national assessment data as it relates to individual student performance and school improvement focused on at-risk students.
- Ensure student assessments are executed with fidelity.
- Develop and maintain historical student and school data files to monitor and track performance.
- Interpret and review assessment data with administrators and teachers.
- Compile data from multiple assessments to develop student, subject, grade-level, or school achievement profiles.
- Work with faculty and staff in schools to conduct training in the use of data to improve instruction to target academic achievement where learning and achievement gaps are present.
- Ensure the validity of all data presented to staff and stakeholders.
- Attend, as necessary and appropriate, training sessions/conferences related to assigned responsibilities to effectively use data to inform school improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a member of the state testing team, supporting in-person testing initiatives during all testing administrations throughout the year.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or field related OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Virginia Teaching license required. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience working with data from various types of student assessments.
- Experience working with large data sets including data analysis, interpretation, and display.
- Possess strong communication, organizational, analytical, and written skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to interact positively with teachers, administrators, and support staff.
- Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Ability to travel as required (on average once per month and/or approximately 10% of the time) for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and as required by the school.
- Pass required background check.
Qualifications
- Experience in using academic data to impact instruction and school strategic planning is required.
- Skilled in explaining testing and statistics to administrators, teachers, and parents.
- Ability to communicate, both in writing and orally, technical information in a way that is understandable to all stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff from various areas of responsibility.
- Knowledge of quality management, systems, and strategic planning are required.
- Ability to learn new software and processes as they become available.
- Self-motivated and able to work in a quick-paced environment.
- Ability to design and format data files and tables and to modify and update such structures as required.
- Ability to plan and manage multiple tasks in a timely manner.
