School Counselor (Elementary)

About the role

Persistence Prep, a K-8 charter school in Buffalo, is seeking a School Counselor to join its dedicated team. The School Counselor will play a crucial role in supporting students' academic and social-emotional needs, aligning with the school's mission to ensure all scholars are on a path to success.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals, groups, and systems through positive behavior supports
• Coordinate Functional Assessments of Behavior and Behavior Intervention Plans
• Provide classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies
• Run small social emotional groups
• Provide individual counseling to scholars
• Build strong and positive relationships with scholars and families
• Use data to tailor instruction and engage in collaboration with colleagues
• Manage family relationships for scholars receiving counseling services
• Respond promptly to family concerns and provide crisis intervention
• Provide one-on-one or group counseling as needed
• Develop and implement curriculum for social and emotional development
• Partner with other school leaders and staff members to design and coordinate family engagement and education activities
• Attend and participate in events outside of normal school hours
• Participate in professional development sessions
• Complete all assigned duties and tasks

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and communicate with diverse audiences
• Solutions-focused approach to support scholar development
• Experience working in urban elementary schools
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's or advanced degree preferred
• Required certifications: School Counselor {2030}, School Social Worker {2080}
