About the role
Persistence Prep, a K-8 charter school in Buffalo, is seeking a School Counselor to join its dedicated team. The School Counselor will play a crucial role in supporting students' academic and social-emotional needs, aligning with the school's mission to ensure all scholars are on a path to success.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals, groups, and systems through positive behavior supports
- Coordinate Functional Assessments of Behavior and Behavior Intervention Plans
- Provide classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies
- Run small social emotional groups
- Provide individual counseling to scholars
- Build strong and positive relationships with scholars and families
- Use data to tailor instruction and engage in collaboration with colleagues
- Manage family relationships for scholars receiving counseling services
- Respond promptly to family concerns and provide crisis intervention
- Provide one-on-one or group counseling as needed
- Develop and implement curriculum for social and emotional development
- Partner with other school leaders and staff members to design and coordinate family engagement and education activities
- Attend and participate in events outside of normal school hours
- Participate in professional development sessions
- Complete all assigned duties and tasks

- Expert knowledge of function-based intervention planning
- Exceptional knowledge in assessment and data use
- Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, self-motivation, and teamwork
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and communicate with diverse audiences
- Solutions-focused approach to support scholar development
- Experience working in urban elementary schools
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's or advanced degree preferred
- Required certifications: School Counselor {2030}, School Social Worker {2080}
