School Counselor

About the role

The position is effective beginning the 2026-27 school year.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual and group counseling for students.
  • Provides academic counseling for students.
  • Assists the student services administration in addressing student/teacher challenges.
  • Initiates referrals to child study/special programs.
  • Works as a resource person in school personnel teams.
  • Applies developmental, learning, counseling, and education theories.
  • Demonstrates understanding of educational systems, legal issues, policies, research, and trends in education.
  • Demonstrates leadership in developing and implementing a comprehensive school counseling program.
  • Adheres to legal and ethical principles of the school counseling profession.
  • Complies with school counseling professional standards and competencies.
  • Understands the impact of cultural, social, and environmental factors on student success and opportunities.
  • Uses ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success standards to guide the comprehensive school counseling program.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate school and community resources.
  • Collaborates with families, teachers, administrators, other school staff, and education stakeholders for student achievement and success.
  • Affirms and reports program results to the school community.

Requirements

  • Licensed by the State of Minnesota as a school counselor.
  • Strong general academic background.
  • Knowledge of the skills and attitudes students need to achieve academic success, college and career readiness, and social/emotional development.
  • Ability to relate positively to students, staff, and community.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially, and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Licensed by the State of Minnesota as a school counselor.
  • Strong general academic background.

Compensation according to contractual agreement. Pay
