About the Role
The School Certifying Official (SCO) plays a critical role certifying and maintaining compliance for our military-connected students utilizing Veteran Affairs (VA) and Department of Defense (DoD) education benefits. The SCO engages with students, campus partners, the VA, and other entities to ensure the center delivers a holistic approach that enables students to achieve their academic goals.
Responsibilities
- Order, receive, process, and track the center's Joint Service Transcript (JST) and Community College of the Air Force credit process to comply with state and federal requirements.
- Serve as a University VA School Certifying Official (SCO).
- Maintain and oversee student validation, files, and send periodic student communications with relevant information.
- Work with and maintain an active working relationship with campus partners to ensure compliance for university, Veteran Affairs, and Department of Defense requirements.
- Assist the Director and Senior SCO with delivering services for military-connected students on campus.
- Assist the Director and Senior SCO with efforts of recruiting and retention services and referrals for both on-campus and off-campus resources.
- Provide trainings for university departments to ensure military-connected support aligns with campus, state, and federal policies.
- Assist the Veterans center with delivering student orientations, workshops, and trainings.
- Occasional travel for training and conferences.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Honorably discharged Veteran, currently serving National Guard or Reserve Component member, or a dependent.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Ability to connect with students in a positive and meaningful way.
- Experience working with federal, state, or university education benefits.
- Demonstrated ability to process applications, follow through with supporting documents, and make decisions for students using various education benefits.
- Demonstrated ability to research, execute, and maintain compliance with laws, policies, and guidelines.
- Exceptional computer skills, with experience in record management, administration, and data entry.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4-year/Bachelor's degree.
- One or two years' experience working with students in a higher education environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with previous presentation or teaching experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working in the university Banner and Degree Works database systems.
- Ability to compute, analyze, and validate tuition and fee costs.
Pay
$38,000.00 - $41,000.00 Annually
