School Bus Drivers

Effective: 2026-2027 School Year

Schedule

7 hours/day; 5 days/week; 10 months/year

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid NJ Class B, CDL License with S & P endorsements
• Good health and sufficient vitality to perform duties assigned
• Demonstrated aptitude for assigned responsibilities
• Clean driving record
• Minimum 3 years previous safe driving experience
• 3 years experience operating a school bus or commercial vehicle

Responsibilities

• Obeys all traffic laws
• Observes all mandatory State of NJ Regulations for School Buses
• Maintains discipline when students are on the bus; reports disciplined issues to the proper administrative personnel
• Keeps assigned bus clean
• Keeps to the assigned bus schedule
• Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects and maintains all required paperwork
• Notifies the proper administrative personnel in case of mechanical failure and lateness
• Checks bus after every run for students and/or items
• Picks up/discharges students only at authorized bus stops
• Exercises responsible leadership when on district school trips
• Transports only authorized students
• Reports all accidents and completes required reports
• Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus
• Performs such duties as may from time to time be assigned

Pay

$46,176 per year
