School Based Therapist (Robertson County)

About the role

As a school-based behavioral health liaison, you will provide face-to-face consultation with classroom teachers to help create positive, trauma-informed classroom environments that enhance learning for children at risk of emotional/behavioral problems, substance use disorder, or serious emotional disturbance (SED). Training and education on childhood mental health and trauma-informed responses will be provided to teachers. You will also deliver psycho-educational groups and support to youth identified by school officials, serve as a liaison between families and the school, and assist with the IEP process and trauma-informed support plans when invited. This position is located at Watauga Elementary School, serving all students with an emphasis on Tier 3 students to meet Centerstone criteria and productivity.

Responsibilities

• Provide face-to-face consultation with classroom teachers to create trauma-informed classrooms and develop effective behavior responses.
• Deliver at least one face-to-face training per year to LEA personnel on mental health and substance abuse prevention topics.
• Assist in developing school-wide mental health initiatives and universal prevention strategies.
• Provide liaison services including communication between school and families, assistance with IEP processes, alternative school placement, and development of trauma-informed support plans.
• Support school personnel in navigating local behavioral health systems, including substance abuse and mental health services, and crisis services.
• Maintain logs and tracking documents for state monitoring visits.
• Offer student support through individual consultations, interventions for coping and de-escalation, and at least three psychoeducation group activities per year covering mental health, substance use, stress management, and related topics.
• Address mental health or behavioral issues through individual, group, and/or family therapy; formulate diagnoses; create and update treatment plans; and maintain timely documentation.

Requirements

• A Master’s degree is required in Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a specialization in Mental Health Counseling.
• License-eligible in the respective discipline is preferred.
• Applicants with a Master’s degree in a related field must have completed at least 24 graduate-level semester hours in psychology, social work, counseling, or other behavioral health-related coursework, plus relevant coursework and experience in clinical treatment, assessment, psychopathology, and DSM-based diagnosis.
• Clinical experience is required and may be fulfilled through internships or practicums completed as part of a master’s degree program.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet eligibility requirements for vehicle insurance coverage.
