About the role

Cummins Behavioral Health Systems, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School-Based Life Skills Specialist to join our team. This role focuses on improving the well-being of school-aged students through life skills education and support.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging life skills interventions and strategies on topics such as communication, self-management, decision-making, conflict resolution, and self-regulation.
  • Provide individual and family sessions to support students in developing essential life skills.
  • Primarily work with students during the school day in the classroom or school office; before/after school and early evening hours will also be utilized to support students and families either at school or in the student’s home.
  • Collaborate and regularly communicate with teachers, counselors, and school administrators to identify and address student needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and program outcomes within an electronic health record.
  • Serve as a liaison between schools, families, and community resources to connect students and families with additional support services.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive environment that fosters student growth and well-being.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or a related degree in human service field is required or Associate's degree in human services or related field and (2) years previous direct care experience in social services, behavioral health, school-based, etc.; or
  • High school graduate or GED and four (4) years previous direct care experience in social services, behavioral health, school-based, etc.
  • Two years' of post-bachelors work experience in mental health is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Education and experience in a human service field is required.
  • Experience working with diverse populations is preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, families, and community resources.
  • Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
