About the role
The YMCA of Delaware seeks a School Age Administrator to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and families, unite communities, and inspire service to others. Responsibilities
- Bring consistency and build quality to the Before/After Care program by being on-site 50% of the program’s operating hours.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and children, providing daily care, encouraging engagement, and implementing positive behavior management techniques.
- Plan, implement, and actively participate in daily classroom activities, ensuring a variety of literacy, health living, STEM, and physical activities are provided.
- Document children's progress and development, communicate effectively with co-workers, administration, and parents, and ensure all members receive exceptional experiences.
- Maintain a clean, well-maintained, and hazard-free facility, complete required program documentation, and attend and participate in professional development trainings.
- Ensure compliance with YMCA and State regulations, attend required trainings, report program needs and concerns, and assist the Child Development Director.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- Option 1: High school diploma or equivalent and 12 college credits in relevant fields plus 6 months experience with children kindergarten through sixth grade.
- Option 2: High school diploma or equivalent and 6 college credits in relevant fields plus 6 months experience with children kindergarten through sixth grade.
- Option 3: High school diploma or equivalent and 12 college credits in relevant fields plus 12 months experience with children kindergarten through sixth grade.
- Complete a physical & tuberculosis screening and provide a physician's documentation of both within 30 days of hire.
- Pass a comprehensive criminal history, child abuse & adult abuse background check as required by the State of Delaware.
- Proficient active listening skills, patience, and compassion suitable for working with young children.
- Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy development, exercise control, and maintain classroom discipline.
- Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children and staff.
- Mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children alone in a classroom.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

- Multi-lingual skills.
- Prior experience working with youth in a group setting.
- Develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Flexible and willing to accommodate the needs of the early childhood community and staff team.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
- Ability to persuade and influence others.
- Knowledge of early childhood /school age education programs and techniques.
- Knowledge of child development theory and practice.
- Awareness of the unique needs of young children and appropriate expectations of their abilities.

Pay
Rate of pay: $16.50 – $18.00. Final compensation is based on factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience.
Schedule
Preference will be given to candidates who can work either 5 mornings, 5 afternoons, or both to ensure continuity of care for our students.
