School Age Child Care Group Leader

Part-time position available for Group Leaders at various locations, including Exeter, Danville, Hampton, Hampstead, Brentwood, Kingston, Stratham, and Kensington.

About the role

The Group Leader assists the Site Coordinator in operating a licensed school-age child care program. Responsibilities include running programs and curriculum that meet YMCA quality standards, ensuring child safety, assisting with special events, and building relationships with children and parents. All employees receive a free YMCA membership.

Responsibilities

• Lead activities to engage students in fun, educational experiences.
• Respond appropriately to the individual needs of children, both physically and emotionally, in a positive and nurturing manner while ensuring safety and security.
• Help maintain an indoor program space that allows children to take initiative and explore their interests.
• Create a positive atmosphere that boosts self-esteem and self-concept of all participants.
• Use positive behavior management techniques to guide children’s behavior in a consistent, fair, and logical manner.
• Maintain and display a positive attitude and relationships with families, staff, and school personnel.
• Attend all required meetings, events, and trainings, and work supplemental programs (e.g., school vacations) as needed.
• Communicate upward with the Program Coordinator and YMCA management in a timely manner, adhering to deadlines and requests.
• Promote teamwork and cohesiveness to build an inclusive program where all staff feel welcome and valued.
• Be willing to transfer locations as needed by the Program Coordinator.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED.
• Must meet one of the following:
  • 600 hours of experience working with school-age children;
  • At least 3 credits in child development, education, recreation, or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • Certified coach documentation;
  • Documentation of prior qualification and employment as a group leader in a school-age program on or before 2017.
• Maintain a current medical health form on file at the YMCA within 60 days of hire (screening must have been conducted within 12 months of hire and renewed every three years).
• Agree to FBI and state criminal background checks via fingerprinting.
• Professional conduct, integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
• Proven ability to take initiative, exercise good judgment, and make independent decisions.
• Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to multi-task under pressure.
• Knowledge of Association policies and practices.
• Effective team player who contributes ideas and meets commitments.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to organize ideas clearly and understand audience needs.
• Preferred: Knowledge of and experience with diverse populations (e.g., language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, economic background).
• Ability to respond to messages promptly.
• Ability to transport themselves to and from the program site and SACC office.

Pay

$16.00 per hour.
