School Age Child Care - Group Assistant

About the role

The Assistant Group Leader assists the Site Supervisor in managing the School Age Before or After Care program, providing supervision and leading or assisting with activities.

Responsibilities

• Affirm the safety of all children under their care by adhering to the Code of Conduct and Licensing Requirements.
• Maintain continuous head/face counts during transitions between activities.
• Supervise restroom use and ensure hand washing.
• Support the implementation of various programs such as CATCH, Healthy U, and assist with snack preparation and homework support.
• Follow YMCA protocols for first aid and emergencies.
• Participate in monthly safety drills and use positive group management techniques.
• Build professional relationships with children, families, and school personnel.
• Represent the YMCA positively in all interactions.
• Ensure a clean and sanitary environment by cleaning supplies, equipment, and tables before and after snack or activities.
• Assist with snack setup and cleanup, and ensure children wash their hands before snack.
• Report maintenance issues or supply needs to the Site Supervisor.
• Maintain the health and comfort of children by providing attentive and hygienic care, including changing soiled clothing or disposable training pants.
• Promote YMCA programs and camps to families.
• Assist with planning and implementing special events, including the Annual Campaign.
• Attend all YMCA training and meetings as requested.
• Perform other job-related duties as requested and necessary.

Requirements

• A High School Diploma is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels, including staff, parents, and school staff.
• Ability to problem-solve and take initiative that aligns with the YMCA's purpose, mission, and goals.
• Experience leading group activities is preferred.
• First-Aid, CPR, and AED certification may be required.
• Must complete a CARI Background Check, CHRI/Fingerprinting, and provide proof of a Mantoux test within two weeks of hire.

Salary

$16 - $16.50 per hour.
