Bon Secours is a faith-based and patient-focused organization dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of all people through exceptional patient care. The Scheduling Specialist coordinates and schedules patient testing or procedures, ensuring timely appointments and accurate data entry.
Responsibilities
- Gathers and interprets patient data from physician offices and patients to enable scheduling of tests, surgeries, and pre-certification when necessary.
- Enters patient scheduling information into the hospital computer system, updates demographic and insurance information, and provides pre-registration forms.
- Answers questions about testing, scheduling, and test preparation, and refers patients to specialty area staff if needed.
- Works with departments to schedule urgent patients and coordinates scheduling with multiple facilities or departments to ensure outpatient appointments are scheduled promptly.
- Compiles and prepares statistical data as requested by the department supervisor.
- Performs administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and relaying data as assigned.
- Promotes customer focus and handles calls with professionalism.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree in business, healthcare, or a related field is preferred. Experience with data entry and typing (45-50 WPM) is preferred.
Qualifications
Knowledge of provider and non-provider payers is essential. Ability to resolve scheduling discrepancies and communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other departments is required.
Skills
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities are necessary. Proficiency in using hospital computer systems and maintaining accurate records is expected.
