The Scheduling Specialist coordinates and schedules patient testing or procedures, ensuring timely appointments and maintaining accurate records.
Responsibilities
- Gathers and interprets patient data from physician offices and patient daily to enable scheduling of tests, surgeries, and pre-certification when required.
- Enters patient scheduling information into the hospital computer system, updates patient demographic and insurance information, and provides pre-registration forms.
- Answers questions about testing, scheduling, and test preparation, and refers patients to specialty area staff instructions.
- Works with departments to schedule stat patients, coordinates scheduling with multiple facilities or departments, and checks for medical necessity at the time of scheduling.
- Compiles and prepares statistical data as requested, and resolves scheduling discrepancies and problems with patient testing and scheduling.
- Performs administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and relaying data as assigned.
- Promotes strong customer focus and handles all calls with professionalism.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent (required), associate degree in business, healthcare, or related field (preferred), experience with data entry (preferred), typing (45-50 WPM) preferred.

Knowledge of provider and non-provider payers, ability to communicate with patients, physicians, and other departments, proficiency in data entry and typing.
