About the Role

Coordinates and schedules Diagnostic Radiology, CT Scan, Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound examinations for patients via telephone, in person, and through inpatient prescription.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately schedules, pre-screens, and pre-registers patients for nuclear medicine, ultrasound, CT, conventional radiographic exams, and MRI.
  • Assumes heavy phone duties involving scheduling and rescheduling appointments for physician’s offices, outpatients, and clinic patients.
  • Thoroughly and clearly explains proper preparation for radiology exams for patients who are scheduled via telephone or in person and provides needed preparation kits.
  • Notifies technical staff of all STAT work that is requested.
  • Processes all requisitions for radiology exams, verifying patient’s name, date of birth, and pertinent clinical history. Checks registration data.
  • Enters patient information into the computer system, ensuring the correct exam is scheduled and proper preparation was followed by the patient.
  • Questions patient and documents requisition.
  • Reschedules callback patients and responds to phone requests.
  • Assists patients and notifies appropriate staff of priorities.
  • Answers messages from Phone Tree.
  • Responds to changes in scheduling of patients due to specific equipment failure or radiologist’s schedule.
  • Explains the outpatient registration process to the patient during scheduling encounters.
  • Provides proper examination instructions to the patient and explains test procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains a good rapport with all members of the Radiology Department.
  • Handles telephone information requests with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of insurance requirements.
  • Channels suggestions, criticisms, and questions to the appropriate person.
  • Determines the proper sequence of procedures for maximum efficiency.
  • Regularly assists other personnel.
  • Performs duties in an independent manner with little need for direct supervision.
  • Attends all staff meetings.
  • Incorporates the physiological and developmental age of the patient into the overall plan for delivery of care.
  • Observes Hospital policy concerning Fire and Safety regulations, Infection Control Standards, smoking regulations, telephone usage, and other rules governing conduct.
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality.
  • Complies with Hospital dress codes by wearing an ID badge and maintaining a professional appearance.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own work schedule by adhering to attendance standards.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, legible handwriting, and displays a positive business demeanor.
  • Utilizes time effectively.
  • Adjusts personal schedule in case of fluctuations in the department’s workload.
  • Demonstrates ability to recognize priorities and deal with them promptly.
  • Reports any suggestions or positive changes to supervisor.
  • Shows appropriate respect and professionalism to patients, co-workers, supervisors, and physicians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours to meet operational needs.
  • Must be able to read, write, and rationally comprehend the English language.
  • Must work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure quality service is provided to clients and physicians.
  • Must perform the physical requirements of this job, including standing, walking, reaching with arms and hands, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent experience required.
  • Graduate of an Accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.

Pay

Pay Range: $17.00/hour - $21.00/hour. Final base compensation will be determined based on factors such as employment status (Full/Part-Time or Per Diem), skills, education, and/or experience. Pay equity and internal equity of current team members will also be considered.
