Scheduler Authorization Representative - **Internal UMC Employees**

About the role
Serves as the primary point of contact for patient scheduling, registration, and ensuring timely authorization from insurance carriers to optimize the hospital's revenue cash flow. Coordinates schedules (i.e., appointments) for patients and providers. Collects, verifies, and updates patient demographic and guarantor information. Verifies insurance benefits/eligibility, manages referrals, runs patient estimates, collects copays and patient-estimated out-of-pocket expenses. Performs appointment scheduling, registration, and customer service duties. Obtains authorization and re-authorization as needed for both professional and facility services, as well as notification for inpatient stays.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for patient scheduling and registration.
- Ensure timely authorization from insurance carriers to optimize hospital revenue.
- Coordinate patient and provider schedules, including appointments.
- Collect, verify, and update patient demographic and guarantor information.
- Verify insurance benefits and eligibility.
- Manage referrals and run patient estimates.
- Collect copays and patient-estimated out-of-pocket expenses.
- Perform appointment scheduling, registration, and customer service duties.
- Obtain authorization and re-authorization for professional and facility services.
- Provide notification for inpatient stays.
Requirements
- Equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Two (2) years of Admitting Discharge experience in a hospital setting, or one (1) year of surgery scheduling experience, or one (1) year of experience working in a physician's office performing scheduling/authorization activities.
- At least one (1) year of registration experience.
- At least two (2) years of insurance verification experience.
- At least one (1) year of experience with Epic Systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Notice of Admission experience.
- At least two (2) years of experience with submitting authorizations.
