Scale House Attendant

About the role

GreenWaste is looking for a highly motivated, professional, self-directed, and enthusiastic Scale House Attendant to join our team in San Jose, CA. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is based at our facility at 625 Charles St. Some job-related travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers by providing accurate service information, quoting costs, and processing payments for inbound and outbound transactions.
• Learn and accurately classify materials while reviewing waste loads.
• Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, managers, and customers.
• Maintain strong attention to detail, especially during data entry.
• Manage traffic control and provide clear directions to customers for safe material offloading.
• Demonstrate consistent punctuality and excellent attendance.
• Be open to cross-training at other nearby sites as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Proficiency in reading and writing English (required); bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred).
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Basic math and computer skills, including data entry and printing.
• Ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately.
• Reliable with a strong attendance record.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Physical capability to climb stairs, reach above shoulders, and tolerate prolonged sitting or standing.
• Ability to push, pull, and lift objects up to 75 lbs.
• Constant bending and twisting.

Physical Demands

• Frequent climbing of stairs throughout the shift.
• Frequent standing and walking; semi-frequent sitting.
• Ability to stand for extended periods (full shift).

Work Environment

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, with possible Saturday and Sunday work based on operational needs. Employees typically work five days per week within operating hours of 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM, with overtime as needed. This is an outdoor position subject to varying weather conditions, frequent changes in equipment use, and start/end times depending on daily and weekly operational demands.
