About the role

Dakota Prairie, SMSC’s Organics Recycling Facility is seeking a part-time, seasonal Scale Attendant. This position offers flexible scheduling and the opportunity to grow within a supportive community.

Schedule

This is a seasonal position through November with the following hours:

  • Monday - Thursday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
  • Friday: 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Responsibilities

  • Operate the scale house to record in-coming and out-going weights and generate billing information for Finance.
  • Accept payments for product sales and advise customers on proper application for compost and soil blends.
  • Inspect in-bound loads for contamination.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all customers entering the facility, providing excellent customer service to both residential and commercial customers.
  • Answer questions, complete transactions, and provide information regarding rules, regulations, and operating procedures.
  • Operate the commercial truck scale, input data into a computer software system, and create receipts for each transaction.
  • Communicate with site operators to ensure proper location of special product orders and direct customers to loading/unloading areas.
  • Use a two-way radio to communicate with yard operators about facility traffic.
  • Receive payments, balance receipts daily, and ensure accurate record-keeping and billing.
  • Perform routine cleaning of the scale house and surrounding area to maintain a neat, organized, and safe environment.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Basic knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheets, and email software.
  • Possess basic math skills.
  • Valid Class D driver’s license may be required with a good driving record.
