About the role

The Foreman supervises and coordinates skilled and unskilled workers on various construction projects such as highway structures, right-of-way clearing, pile driving, subgrade preparation, road surfacing, curb installation, underground utilities, traffic control, concrete paving, and related lime and dirt work. The role focuses on scheduling work safely, adhering to plans and specifications, and meeting cost estimates while maintaining strong relationships with inspectors, developers, vendors, and subcontractors.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise skilled and semi-skilled hourly employee-owners.

Responsibilities

  • Planning:
    • Review contract documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schematics to determine work scope, materials, and manpower requirements by craft.
    • Execute Work Plans for major work components and monitor adherence.
    • Order self-perform materials, supplies, and small tools from approved suppliers; ensure timely requisition of materials and equipment.
  • Cost Performance:
    • Monitor daily labor costs and production rates for accuracy and budget conformance; take corrective action for productivity improvements.
    • Encourage craftsmen to develop innovative methods for efficiency, productivity, and profitability; provide feedback and coaching.
    • Execute hourly time card reporting.
    • Maintain crew-assigned equipment, conduct preventive maintenance training, and ensure proper storage of tools and equipment.
  • Scheduling:
    • Develop detailed daily and weekly construction plans; manage work to stay within schedule.
    • Schedule all QA/QC inspections required for owner acceptance of work.
  • Quality Management:
    • Inspect work in progress to ensure it meets established tolerances; take corrective action when standards are not maintained.
  • Relationships:
    • Manage crews into effectively coordinated working units, fostering a motivating atmosphere.
    • Promote training and development through on-the-job opportunities and company-sponsored programs.
    • Recommend personnel actions such as promotions, discharges, and disciplinary measures.
    • Supervise subcontractors to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Safety:
    • Conduct Tool Box and JHA Safety Meetings to instruct employee-owners on accident prevention.
    • Enforce all safety regulations and company policies; monitor safety conditions.
  • Technical:
    • Investigate alternative work methods and materials to improve efficiency and quality.
    • Ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
    • Perform project closeout tasks, including punch lists and demobilization.
    • Maintain detailed and accurate daily reports of field construction activities.
    • Ensure equipment is used correctly for its intended purpose.
    • Interpret company policies to workers, including Equal Employment Opportunity Policy during Safety Meetings.
    • Conduct on-the-job training for qualified personnel; record and report training hours on Foreman’s Daily Control.
    • Complete Foreman's Daily Control with employee-owners’ hours, job numbers, cost codes, and quantities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

The role requires regular sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and the ability to talk, hear, taste, and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States; Austin Industrial is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.
  • 5+ years of industrial and supervisory experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • No minimum education requirements.
  • Certifications/Licenses: NCCER, TWIC, and Driver’s License (DL).
