SBU Driver Mechanic

About the role

The SBU Driver Mechanic performs vehicle mechanical work beginning with basic assembly and/or removal of parts, minor repairs such as replacing fuel systems, unit connections, and other components. Duties increase with time and experience on the job. Advanced work may include fabricating experimental parts and test fixtures and working from blueprints or drawings. The role also involves driving test vehicles at various speeds on varying road conditions. Weekend overtime is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic assembly and removal of vehicle parts
• Conduct minor repairs, including replacing fuel systems and unit connections
• Fabricate experimental parts and test fixtures as needed
• Work from blueprints and drawings
• Drive test vehicles under varying road conditions and speeds

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 1 year of mechanical skills and knowledge of mechanical systems
• Basic knowledge of mathematics, reading, and writing
• Organizational skills
• Welding experience
• Troubleshooting skills
• Ability to use and understand computerized diagnostic equipment
• Automotive background

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree
• Apprenticeship or internship in automotive mechanics
• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification
• Specialty certifications

Schedule

Weekend overtime is required.
