About the role

The ideal candidate for the SBA Underwriter position will compile and analyze data to prepare credit packages, evaluate loan applications, and ensure compliance with bank policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Compile data for preparation of credit packages (or pre-screens), incorporating spreads, cash flow, collateral valuation, appraisals, audits, and other relevant data.
  • Interpret analysis outcomes and prepare summaries and recommendations; may present jointly with Relationship Managers (RM) to Credit Approvers for renewals and new loans.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and form opinions on the approval or denial of commercial, commercial real estate, and/or business banking loan applications.
  • Spread financial statements, identify credit strengths and weaknesses, and provide detailed, documented analysis of creditworthiness.
  • Ensure credit requests are processed in accordance with bank policies, banking regulations, and laws.
  • Identify risks and mitigating factors related to conducting thorough credit analysis for approval.
  • Respond to internal and external customer inquiries.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of commercial, commercial real estate credit, or business banking underwriting experience, including spread analysis, lending, underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures (or other directly related experience).
  • A combination of education and experience may meet qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of commercial, commercial real estate, and/or business banking credit underwriting, spread analysis, lending, underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of Business, C&I, and CRE loan requirements with the ability to identify risk and mitigating factors.
  • Knowledge of balance sheets, income, and cash flow statements.
  • Good understanding of commercial and/or business banking lending policies, procedures, and general banking laws and regulations.
  • Ability to analyze and research financial statements, business plans, credit reports, debt ratios, and loan-to-value information.
  • Sound judgment and ability to make decisions.
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Strong customer relations and communication skills.
  • Self-starter with dependability, accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of related software applications, including spreadsheets and word processing.

Pay

$65,000–$80,000 (depending on location and experience).
