About the role
We are seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Saw Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will operate a variety of saw equipment to accurately cut lumber products according to work orders and production specifications. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, works well in a fast-paced environment, and is committed to maintaining quality and safety standards throughout the production process.
Key Responsibilities
- Review work orders and production specifications to determine required cuts and measurements
- Set up and adjust saw equipment, including pop-up saws, miter saws, web saws, and other cutting machinery
- Adjust saw speeds and feed roll settings to ensure efficient and accurate operation
- Monitor the automatic feeding of lumber into saws and manually position materials as needed
- Inspect cut materials to ensure quality and compliance with specifications
- Stack, organize, and prepare finished lumber for the next stage of production
- Report dull, damaged, or malfunctioning saw blades and equipment to supervisors
- Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a clean work area
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; however, candidates with less formal education and relevant experience are encouraged to apply
- Up to one month of related manufacturing, lumber, warehouse, or production experience preferred
- Ability to read and follow work orders, instructions, and safety guidelines
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand for extended periods and use hands to handle, grasp, and manipulate materials
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally required to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate effectively with others
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must possess the ability to maintain close visual attention, depth perception, and focus adjustment
Work Environment
- Work is performed in a manufacturing and production setting
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical equipment and machinery
- May be exposed to dust, fumes, airborne particles, and varying outdoor weather conditions
- Noise levels are frequently high; appropriate hearing protection may be required
- Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to all safety policies is essential
