Saw Guide/ Knife Tech
Join our team as a Knife Changer at our Sawmill in DeRidder, LA, and play a vital role in maintaining sharp, well-maintained knives to ensure the production of high-quality products. This full-time permanent position operates on a night shift, Monday through Friday, with possible weekend work.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, and change knives used in sawmill machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- Operate and maintain equipment used for knife sharpening and alignment.
- Inspect knives for defects, ensuring they meet high-quality standards.
- Follow all safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
- Diagnose and resolve issues with knives and related equipment.
- Keep track of knife inventory and ensure necessary supplies and tools are available.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repairs performed on knives.
- Work closely with mill operators and other team members to ensure seamless production processes.
- Perform general cleanup throughout the mill, including planermill and sawmill.
- Complete any additional tasks as requested by supervision.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Knife Technician or in a similar role, preferably in a sawmill setting.
- Proficiency in operating general hand tools.
- Exceptional attention to detail and precision in your work.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and safely handling sharp tools.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to think on your feet.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
