Saw Filer
About the role
This position works with our saw filing team performing saw filing activities for our state-of-the-art lumber manufacturing facility in Idabel, OK. The successful candidate must have expertise in safely filing and maintaining band saws and circle saws; machine alignment; maintaining saw filing equipment; and preventive maintenance procedures, including the ability to inspect equipment for signs of wear/damage and recognize unsafe conditions.
Responsibilities
- Participate in safety meetings and activities as determined by team and mill norms and standards.
- Benching and fitting bandsaws.
- Sharpening, tipping and benching round saws.
- Honing and maintaining knives.
- Pour babbit, maintenance of guides and maintaining guide plane.
- Complete PMs for sawmill and sawshop machinery as required.
- Participate in reliability task teams or activities as required.
- Help coach apprentices/operators to learn sawfiling trade and help with PMs.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years' saw filing experience in a sawmill environment.
- Experience in safe work practices related to saw filing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Qualified in fitting round and band saws.
- Experience with filing shop equipment calibration and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of hard tipped welding (alloy) and carbide plus stellite tipping.
- Experience in tensioning and leveling round saws / band saws.
- Basic understanding of planned / preventive maintenance process.
- Understand internal quality control and machine alignment procedures.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively team with others while implementing process changes in a rapid-pace work environment.
- Strong commitment to safety values.
- Produce quality work product and adapt to and learn new technology.
- Basic computer skills.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of 3 years' saw filing experience in a sawmill environment is also required.
