Saratoga Retirement Community - Human Resources Director
The Human Resources Director at Saratoga Retirement Community is responsible for leading all community-based human resources programs, systems, and initiatives. This role is located at 14500 Fruitvale Ave Building 3000 Saratoga CA 95070.
About the Role
This is a high-level position offering a compensation range of $150,000 to $175,000 DOE. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience, along with at least seven years of progressive human resources leadership experience, including experience supporting leaders and team members in a complex, service-oriented environment. Prior experience in senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or another highly regulated service environment is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Leading all community-based human resources programs, systems, and initiatives
- Serving as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director on all workforce-related matters
- Partnering closely with leaders to foster a culture of excellence, engagement, and accountability
- Ensuring success in all aspects of human resources, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, leaves of absence, compliance, employee relations, performance management, compensation, payroll, policy administration, and team member development
- Serving as a strategic advisor and coach to leaders and team members on employee relations, policy interpretation, conflict resolution, performance management, and corrective action
- Developing and delivering training programs, presentations, forms, and educational resources, including New Hire Orientation and Culture of Excellence training
- Participating in recruitment efforts, including workforce planning, sourcing strategies, candidate pipeline development, interviewing, selection, and onboarding
- Administering pre-employment screening processes, background checks, reference verification, and regulatory hiring requirements
- Collaborating with corporate HR to ensure compliance with ACA and other regulatory requirements
- Managing compensation and performance management programs, including annual reviews, salary analysis, wage administration, and merit increase processes
- Partnership with regional and corporate HR leaders on organizational initiatives related to recruitment, retention, culture, engagement, leadership development, and workforce planning
- Ensuring compliance with applicable California employment laws and regulations impacting team members
- Overseeing onboarding programs and orientation for new team members
- Administering and overseeing COBRA, leaves of absence, workers compensation, unemployment claims, and employment-related legal matters; partner with HQ and outside counsel as needed
- Promoting the Transforming Age Mission, Vision, and Values in all areas of responsibility, and demonstrating commitment to the Culture of Excellence and strategic goals
- Leading special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Business, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of seven years of progressive human resources leadership experience, in a fast-paced business environment, including experience supporting leaders and team members in a complex, service-oriented environment
- At least five years of experience in a HR management role with at least one direct report
- Prior experience in senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or another highly regulated service environment strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience with employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, leaves of absence, performance management, compliance, and HR policy administration
- Strong knowledge of California employment laws and regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply policies consistently and appropriately
- Excellent employee relations, coaching, conflict resolution, and investigation skills
- Ability to build trust, influence leaders, and communicate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
- Ability to balance strategic priorities with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment
- Proficiency using Workday required
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing environments
- Ability to anticipate and to think strategically and critically is required
- Ability to collaborate and to operate with a bias for action is required
- Strong knowledge of compensation practices, market trends, and regulatory requirements
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, leadership presence with the ability to influence and collaborate with team members at all levels
- Outstanding proficiency in Microsoft suite, especially Teams, Outlook, Excel, and Word; SharePoint experience preferred
