Sarah Lawrence College Extension Instructors
About the role
Sarah Lawrence College invites faculty to teach in the Sarah Lawrence Extension, a program supporting lifelong learning for intellectually curious adult learners. Opportunities include short courses (2 hours/week for 6 weeks), one‑off lectures (typically 1 hour), stand‑alone seminars (typically 2 hours), and thematically connected seminars (one seminar per month over 3 or 4 months). Faculty from any arts or sciences discipline may apply, with particular interest in topics that engage a general adult audience. Courses can be delivered on‑site at the Bronxville campus or at senior‑living communities in Westchester or southern Connecticut, or online via Zoom, and may be scheduled during the day or evening. Extension faculty are expected to follow Sarah Lawrence’s educational philosophy: lectures should be interactive, use engaging visuals, and incorporate student participation through elicitation, pair work, and questions; seminars are discussion‑based small classes limited to about 15 participants.
Responsibilities
- Teach short courses, one‑off lectures, stand‑alone seminars, and thematically connected seminar series as described.
- Design and deliver interactive lectures that include visual aids and active student participation (elicitation, pair work, questions).

A doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field is preferred, though PhD candidates and those with ABD status are also invited to apply. Preference is given to candidates with a record of effective college‑level teaching and/or experience teaching older adults.
