Responsibilities
- Oversee all cleaning and sanitation activities within the Ready-to-Eat (RTE) food manufacturing facility.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, GMPs, HACCP, SQF/BRC standards, OSHA regulations, and all applicable food safety requirements.
- Lead sanitation employees, verify cleaning effectiveness, and support production readiness while preventing product contamination and cross-contamination.
- Schedule and coordinate daily sanitation operations for RTE processing and packaging areas.
- Verify proper cleaning and sanitizing of equipment, utensils, conveyors, drains, walls, floors, and production lines.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections to ensure equipment and production areas are ready for startup.
- Maintain sanitation records, logs, and documentation accurately and completely.
- Coordinate with QA, Maintenance, and Production departments to ensure sanitation effectiveness and production schedules are met.
- Monitor chemical usage, concentrations, and safe handling procedures.
- Train sanitation employees on: Cleaning procedures, PPE requirements, Chemical safety, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), GMPs and hygiene practices.
- Investigate sanitation deficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain sanitation KPIs including ATP results, environmental swabs, audit findings, and downtime.
- Assist during third-party, customer, USDA/FDA, and internal audits.
- Ensure proper storage and labeling of sanitation chemicals and tools.
- Enforce employee attendance, discipline, and performance expectations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to sanitation efficiency and food safety.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or food science background preferred.
- Minimum 2–5 years of sanitation experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in RTE or high-risk food manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of: HACCP principles, SQF, BRC, or other GFSI standards, GMPs, SSOPs, Allergen control, Environmental monitoring, Chemical safety.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and sanitation tracking systems.
- Preferred certifications: HACCP Certification, SQF Practitioner Training, OSHA Safety Training, PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual).
