Sanitation Supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all cleaning and sanitation activities within the Ready-to-Eat (RTE) food manufacturing facility.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, GMPs, HACCP, SQF/BRC standards, OSHA regulations, and all applicable food safety requirements.
  • Lead sanitation employees, verify cleaning effectiveness, and support production readiness while preventing product contamination and cross-contamination.
  • Schedule and coordinate daily sanitation operations for RTE processing and packaging areas.
  • Verify proper cleaning and sanitizing of equipment, utensils, conveyors, drains, walls, floors, and production lines.
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections to ensure equipment and production areas are ready for startup.
  • Maintain sanitation records, logs, and documentation accurately and completely.
  • Coordinate with QA, Maintenance, and Production departments to ensure sanitation effectiveness and production schedules are met.
  • Monitor chemical usage, concentrations, and safe handling procedures.
  • Train sanitation employees on: Cleaning procedures, PPE requirements, Chemical safety, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), GMPs and hygiene practices.
  • Investigate sanitation deficiencies and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain sanitation KPIs including ATP results, environmental swabs, audit findings, and downtime.
  • Assist during third-party, customer, USDA/FDA, and internal audits.
  • Ensure proper storage and labeling of sanitation chemicals and tools.
  • Enforce employee attendance, discipline, and performance expectations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to sanitation efficiency and food safety.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or food science background preferred.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of sanitation experience in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in RTE or high-risk food manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of: HACCP principles, SQF, BRC, or other GFSI standards, GMPs, SSOPs, Allergen control, Environmental monitoring, Chemical safety.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and sanitation tracking systems.
  • Preferred certifications: HACCP Certification, SQF Practitioner Training, OSHA Safety Training, PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual).
