Sanitation Manager

Full-time, exempt position with up to 5% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Strictly follows and enforces food safety and quality policies, GMPs, and SOPs.
  • Coordinates with department managers and QA Manager to assure proper follow-up on all customer and regulatory issues (complaints, audits, and requests for information).
  • Provides leadership and guidance in directing efforts to improve, maintain, and validate safety and sanitation practices and procedures.
  • Examines all equipment to ensure proper operation and compliance with governmental standards; develops corrective plans for violations.
  • Performs routine audits and sanitation inspections of equipment; recommends maintenance or repairs to comply with state, federal, and company standards.
  • Confers with management and production personnel on sanitation problems; recommends changes in equipment, plant layout, lighting, ventilation, or work practices.
  • Ensures the unit is always audit-ready and provides support during audits.
  • Continuously verifies and validates sanitation effectiveness; proposes cost-effective improvements.
  • Develops and delivers training programs related to sanitation laws and company best practices.
  • Maintains detailed records of sanitation activities, inspections, violations, and resolutions.
  • Reports potential contamination and suspicious activity to the QA manager immediately.
  • Administers and supervises porters and third-party cleaning companies; works closely with chemical supply vendors.
  • Conducts performance evaluations, providing specific feedback on management and leadership skills.
  • Ensures compliance with company Wage & Hour policy, including rest and meal breaks.
  • Trains and monitors employees on proper work procedures to maximize productivity and minimize labor and food expenses.
  • Monitors daily manpower planning and schedules employees.
  • Focuses on employee retention and reducing turnover.
  • Coaches, counsels, and prepares corrective actions for employees in compliance with union/collective bargaining agreements.
  • Reviews and ensures employees are assigned to correct cost centers, job titles, and pay rates based on wage scales and seniority.
  • Completes all company-required training, including ServSafe.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of sanitation and supervisory experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • 2 years of food industry or airline-related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and SQF standards.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, employees, and internal/external customers.
  • Bilingual (Vietnamese) is a plus.
  • Ability to provide daily performance feedback to employees.
  • Interprets company policies and enforces sanitation regulations.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving them.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers toward achieving goals.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to extreme temperature changes and noise.
  • Works with cleaning solutions, people-safe chemicals, and related equipment.
  • Must lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during shifts of 8+ hours.

Leadership & Team

  • Directly supervises 11–22 employees.
  • Reports to the Director, Sanitation and Maintenance.
  • Collaborates across departments and with external vendors.
