About the Role
The Sanitation Manager ensures the cleanliness of the environment where all Crown Bakeries products are produced, stored, and distributed. Key activities include daily plant sanitation monitoring, improving sanitation programs and procedures, and verifying that checklists and cleaning tasks are completed satisfactorily.
Responsibilities
- Interview, hire, appraise, reward, discipline, and resolve problems for sanitation employees.
- Train and instruct employees on sanitation standards, GMPs, SSOPs, and department objectives.
- Maintain and update all SSOPs, Master Sanitation Schedule, and department forms.
- Develop procedures and techniques for verifying and validating the effectiveness of current sanitation procedures, including ATP testing.
- Plan, assign, and direct work activities of the Sanitation Supervisor, Sanitation Leads, and Sanitors.
- Ensure all activities comply with food safety and quality standards, regulatory and customer requirements, and focus on continuous improvement.
- Compile reports on plant sanitation inspections, violations, and corrective actions.
- Ensure the facility is audit-ready at all times and represent the Sanitation Department during regulatory, third-party, and customer audits.
- Develop corrective action procedures and conduct employee training for audit deficiencies.
- Manage the Sanitation Department budget and explore cost-saving and efficiency improvements.
- Work with chemical consultants to review chemical usage, operating procedures, and new technology.
- Conduct weekly meetings with pest control providers to discuss issues and review reports, which must be signed by the Sanitation Manager.
- Maintain a Pest Control Sighting Log in the employee cafeteria.
- Organize regular meetings with Sanitation associates, supervisors, and leads to discuss performance objectives.
- Facilitate communication between Operations, Quality, and Maintenance departments.
- Conduct daily walk-throughs to assess cleanliness of work areas and equipment.
- Monitor progress against established goals for improved efficiency in sanitation operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or other relevant 4-year degree.
- Minimum 5 years of related experience in food manufacturing.
- Strong analysis skills for problem-solving and decision-making.
- Superior communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Basic mathematical and statistical skills.
- Experience with GFSI audits (BRC or SQF) is mandatory.
- Certified in HACCP.
- Certified in pest control with a clear understanding of Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
- Experienced in using ATP meters and maintaining weekly swabbing records.
- Experienced in titration of cleaning chemicals and recording results weekly.
- Perform daily GMP and food safety walks with Supervisors and Leads.
- Conduct weekly plant inspections with entire plant management, covering the entire plant within four weeks.
