The Sanitation Lead ensures sanitation technicians follow procedures to maintain clean equipment and production areas, from ducts to drains, using appropriate chemicals per SSOPs. This role involves daily CIP (clean in place) of production equipment, lines, and tanks, and reports to the Sanitation Manager while collaborating with the Quality Manager to uphold sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure plant cleanliness, including removing trash bins, emptying drums, and recycling containers.
  • Operate floor scrubbers throughout production areas.
  • Assist in cleaning spills or unsanitary conditions in the facility.
  • Perform sanitation tasks per the Master Sanitation Cleaning Schedule and Sanitation Manager directives.
  • Complete tasks from the monthly Food Safety/Housekeeping Audit and corrective actions from audits/inspections.
  • Work with production teams to clean filter/pasteurizers and production lines via CIP procedures.
  • Conduct ATP swap testing of lines post-cleaning.
  • Perform wet cleanings of production lines with proper PPE for safety.
  • Maintain compliance with GMPs and hygiene standards.
  • Assist in monthly food safety and housekeeping audits.
  • Monitor chemical inventories and report low stock to QA and Sanitation Manager.
  • Ensure chemicals are properly labeled, stored, and the chemical cage is clean and orderly.
  • Assume supervisory responsibilities in the Sanitation Manager’s absence and collaborate to uphold effective practices.
  • Communicate sanitation needs, concerns, or suggestions (e.g., foreign material, food safety) to QA or Sanitation Manager.
  • Stand for entire shifts, lift/twist/bend/reach, and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Work in multiple plant areas as assigned.
  • Adhere to FDA, USDA, OSHA, and HACCP requirements.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: 3 years of Sanitation Technician experience in manufacturing.
  • Preferred: 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Preferred: 3 years in manufacturing or the food industry.
  • Preferred: 3 years of experience with industrial-grade chemicals, CIPs, and housekeeping.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education

High school diploma or GED.
