About the role

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for Temporary Sandfilter Operators for the 2026 Shipping Season. This position reports to the Mill Shift Supervisor and follows a 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site rotation schedule.

Responsibilities

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Monitor the sand filter to ensure sand is added and removed at appropriate times to ensure that water moving through the sand bed and sent to the creek aligns with discharge permit
• Mix dried gypsum with bag plant system, utilizing small equipment such as forklift to move 1500-2000 lb. bags of gypsum
• Perform general housekeeping/clean-up including proper cleaning of sand filters and organization of mill area as requested
• Utilize small equipment such as forklift, vac truck, overhead cranes in order to assist in carrying out duties in an effective and efficient manner
• Communicate effectively with other operators, colleagues and supervisor about assigned tasks and ensuring carryover and updates of completed tasks throughout the shift
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards as well as comply with safety policies and procedures (MSHA and Red Dog EMS training) and ensure daily workplace inspections are done to accurately identify and correct workplace hazards
• Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and advise coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as required
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Team player with a positive team attitude
• General knowledge of small tools and able to work safely with them
• Ability to work day or night shifts as required
• Lift 75 lbs. on a regular basis
• Perform labor intensive work for extended periods of time in and out of a confined space
• Valid driver license is preferred
• Ability to manage time independently with limited supervision
• Possess good communication skills
• Committed to safety
• Previous industrial experience a benefit
• Experience operating and basic knowledge of equipment is a benefit
