Summary
The Sandblaster is responsible for cleaning and preparing metal surfaces by operating sandblasting equipment. This role requires understanding the proper angles, distances, and media mixtures for various part shapes and finishes. The position involves working in physically demanding environments, including confined or awkward positions, while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment such as a respirator or air-fed hood.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate sandblasting equipment to clean and prepare metal surfaces for finishing
- Adjust media mixture, nozzle angle, and pressure settings to achieve consistent finishes on parts of varying shapes and sizes
- Operate overhead cranes to move large parts as needed
- Perform manual and power tool grinding to assist in surface finishing
- Follow all safety guidelines and maintain clean, organized work areas
- Report defective materials or production concerns to the Supervisor
- Follow production schedules with minimal supervision
- Participate in department meetings and ongoing training
- Read and follow the company procedures manual and safety rules
- Cross-train in other roles as required for production coverage
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be eighteen years of age or older
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
- Ability to wear a respirator and air-fed hood for extended period
- Mechanical aptitude and strong manual hand dexterity
Preferred Qualifications
- 2–4 years of media or sandblasting experience
- Experience working in a manufacturing, Automotive, or metal fabrication environment
- Mechanical aptitude and strong manual hand dexterity
- Knowledge of various blasting media and surface preparation techniques
- Strong time management and task prioritization skills
- Maintain a professional demeanor and positive attitude
- Willingness to become forklift certified
- Cross-functional skills in finishing, painting, or welding are a plus
Physical Requirements
Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.
Work Environment
Use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Typically in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, loud noise, and fumes which cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.
